There is a critical problem that besets all these "A.I.-maximalists" that I see both here and in the industry where I work.

The issue is that these types want to simultaneously claim that LLMs are a qualitative game-changer, beyond what classic ML and search engines provide, and ALSO that they have essential expertise in these tools beyond just what everyone does who plays around with Chat-GPT.

Fundamentally, these people’s story runs into problems because the inputs of these chatbots are typically so minimalistic that their output is necessarily one of three things:

X. A rehash of someone else's ideas posted online and reformulated through the convoluted neural nets, in which case the A.I. expert’s work is a type of plagiarism with more steps involved.
X. Existing online data interpreted logically through the LLM’s trained templates, in which case this is not largely different from classic search engines with some ML bells and whistles on top.
X. Literally the prduct of the machines's “intelligence”, in which case the A.I. expert didn't create the output but just prompted it, meaning he is an expert in nothing other than babysitting.

Best case scenario for these tools is that people formulate their own ideas and feed them into the AI so the machine can act as a “cleanup” step for bad language and bad-logic check, providing the LLM doesn’t ruin things. However, if this is what the “A.I. expert” is selling then it isn’t qualitatively different from what we already have with more established tools.
