On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, a violent incident occurred aboard a Southwest Airlines flight preparing to depart from LaGuardia Airport in New York City to Kansas City. The altercation involved 32-year-old Leanna Perry, a Brooklyn-based illustrator known for her collaborations with brands such as Maybelline, Adidas, Steve Madden, MAC, Shein, Betsey Johnson, and Nicole Miller.

According to witnesses and police reports, the incident began shortly after boarding when Perry became confrontational over her assigned seat. She reportedly objected to sitting beside another woman, saying she was fat and refusing to sit next to her. The situation escalated quickly. Perry began yelling at the other passenger, grabbed her by the hair, and spat directly into her face. She continued shouting profanities and slurs during the outburst.
