Excellent point.  I think they chose the digital oil metaphor as it was easier to grasp.

But you are right, it is better to think of ETH as the clean energy that powers the world computer and emerging decentralized global economy.  

There are so many technologies that make use of water to generate clean energy with zero waste products.
