The short answer is that I don’t know. The fact is, these inflection points don’t happen very often. Maybe once every 8-10 years. And when it happens you probably won’t even recognize it because it’s so revolutionary that people will dismiss it at first. Bitcoin introduced the world to scarce digital money in 2009. Cryptopunks introduced the world to scarce digital art in 2017. Each created a new primitive that unlocked an entire ecosystem. Whatever it is, it needs time to mature. In the early days there will only be firm believers. People who seem a little bit crazy. For the first X years the Cryptopunks discord was just a place where you would hang out and connect with like-minded people. It wasn’t until 2021 that things really took off. For whatever it’s worth, I do believe that punks are still early. But that’s a topic for a different post. But wait, if these inflection points happen every X years shouldn’t one happen now? Short answer: yes, I do believe we’re about to see one. It won’t look like punks or bitcoin. It will be a revolution, not an evolution. I’m not going to have the audacity to say that I can predict what the next big thing will be, but I can give some hints about what I’m looking at. Blockchain x AI. We’re a couple of years away from AGI. Agentic agents will run the show. AI gives crypto intelligence, automation, accessibility and scalability. They’ll become participants in our economy, society, games. AI is the decision layer. Crypto is the execution layer. A perfect match. Blockchain x Reputation. In a world where AI is everywhere, trust becomes scarce. Thousands of AI agents will be deployed per second. They’ll be everywhere and become so good that we cannot distinguish them from humans. If anyone can fake skill or identity, we need proof of authenticity. Digital reputation fixes this. Happy to hear your thoughts. People have asked what the next Cryptopunks is.
