These mysterious statues do look very strange indeed.

High on a cliff in Peru’s Utcubamba Valley, six eerie stone figures stare out over the abyss.

These are the Sarcophagi of Carajía — pre-Inca, apparently built by the enigmatic Chachapoya culture.

Perched on the edge of the world, they’ve guarded their secrets for centuries.
