$JD founder Richard Liu says the company “lost its way” over the past five years, calling it the "darkest period" in JD’s history. Now, he’s leading a turnaround with plans to enter food delivery, travel, and Europe’s e-commerce market by 2026.

Liu is taking on Meituan and Alibaba with steep subsidies, new hotel and flight booking services, and JD’s logistics strength. About XX% of new food delivery users are converting to JD’s e-commerce platform, per Liu. He’ll shift focus to global growth while CEO Sandy Xu runs domestic operations.
