Tunnel of Eupalinos, located on the Greek island of Samos, an ancient marvel of engineering from 6th Century BC.

Commissioned by the tyrant Polycrates and designed by Eupalinos of Megara, this 1036m long tunnel served as an aqueduct, bringing fresh water from a distant spring to the city of Pythagoreion.

Remarkably, it was dug from both ends of a mountain and met precisely in the middle—an extraordinary feat given the tools and techniques of the time.

The tunnel is a testament to the advanced engineering skills of ancient Greek civilization and is celebrated as one of the great wonders of ancient construction.
