I abhor these comments because we do pay a "living wage". Some of my dishwashers make over six figures (dish is the most critical position). I haven't taken a penny from the restaurant as an owner and work shifts all week. When a server is stiffed, I cover their tip. Our team members are the restaurant. This comment overlooks the reality of productive workers - they would rather work harder and earn a limitless amount of money based on their hard work than receive a (higher) fixed wage. For example, most team members would prefer to make the CA (16.50) minimum and have the opportunity to make $XXX per hour in a shift with tips versus a set $XX an hour. Those that don't are typically the ones that don't hustle. There are places for both in our economy, but lazy thinkers want a catch-all approach that rewards bad work.
