This is an unbelievable betrayal of his own voters… According to a writeup from Climate Power, the legislation will kill hundreds of thousands of jobs in Republican-controlled district by gutting clean energy tax credits. Those same cuts, designed as a handout to the bloated and destructive fossil fuel companies that bankroll the MAGA movement, will cause energy costs to skyrocket in the aforementioned red districts. Ronald Brownstein bluntly analyzed the bill for Bloomberg, writing that Republicans voting for this bill are "testing one of the most durable rules of Congressional behavior: don’t vote against the economic interests of your own district." "The majority of the government spending is creating jobs and manufacturing capacity in red states," said Jason Bordoff, founding director of the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University. "So this puts Republicans, generally and now in the Senate, in the position of having to choose whether to support the party line or maintain support for government programs that are creating a lot of economic activity in their states,” Bordoff added. Climate Power, a renowned environmental group, calculated the damage and discovered that XX House Republicans oversee districts that have received at least $X billion in clean energy investments since President Biden passed his historic Inflation Reduction Act. Another XX Republicans represent districts that received between $X billion and $X billion in such funding. Overall, XXX Republican-controlled districts have raked in roughly $XXX billion in clean energy investments, close to half of the total nationwide spend. "This bill is worse than what people envisioned – it pulls the rug out from facilities banking on these incentives, it raises everyday household costs by hundreds of dollars and undercuts any sort of action on climate change," stated Robbie Orvis, senior director at Energy Innovation. And it gets even worse… "If this bill becomes law, America will effectively surrender the AI race to China and communities nationwide will face blackouts," stated Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association. Roughly $XXX billion from the IRA, or XX% of the bill's overall spending, has gone to Republican-controlled states. Only $XXX billion, 25%, has gone to blue states. If Republicans proceed with the plan to repeal the clean energy credits, up to XXXXXXX jobs could be lost and the energy bills for families and businesses could spike by $XX billion.
