My mentor would do this on stocks. Never asked for reason, no thesis. It was that simple. Reason? The Project/company and insiders always know the 'Positive' news before it comes. They know the stimulus for a pump before it occurs, hence the volume increase. It's that simple. You can call it unethical or whatever. But do you want to learn the game or be an activist?
