Today I learned GT were the golden tornadoes.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane nickname by their football coach H.M. Archer. Initially, he considered "Golden Tornadoes" based on the team's new gold and black uniforms and a remark about the team "roaring through opponents". However, Georgia Tech already used the "Golden Tornadoes" nickname.
