Ridiculing street food like chapati might earn laughs in elite circles, but on the ground, it’s a lifeline. For millions of Rwandans locked out of privilege, these stalls aren’t quirky - they’re survival. Dismissing them reveals how out of touch the regime’s apologists are.

Yes, global inflation hit many nations - but those with real productive economies found stability. Rwanda, instead, invested in optics. Flashy branding and expensive PR campaigns took precedence over real economic resilience.

Remember when the Rwandan franc traded at 1:4 against the Ugandan shilling? That was before Kagame’s government strangled cross-border trade, especially with Uganda. Today, it’s at 1:2.4. That’s not just a statistic - it’s a reflection of collapsed informal economies, shuttered livelihoods, and the erosion of purchasing power.

When Kagame said “funga mukanda,” he wasn’t scolding elites sipping wine and spinning the regime’s narrative. He was threatening the poor majority - the ones who can’t tweet back, who live under surveillance, and who have no one to defend them within the system.

I speak not for clout but for those silenced by fear, poverty, and repression. Attached are real voices, unfiltered, and a mirror of daily life under Rwanda’s so-called “development.”
