Each was evaluated on market cap, FDV, and reported compute capacity (GPU/CPU). An FDV/unit metric was calculated to estimate cost per unit of compute: the lower the metric, the cheaper the project. AIOZ currently appears cheapest on this metric. Chutes ranks among the most expensive. However, reported capacity figures in this sector are often unreliable. IOnet, for example, once listed over 2M units, later revised to ~6K. This raises questions about large capacity claims from Aethir, AIOZ, and Phala. Phala’s data seems more grounded, but there's still some uncertainty. When balancing cost, transparency, and technical progress, Akash stands out. It's one of the cheaper options after AIOZ, Aethir, and Phala, and recently integrated TEE, previously a key differentiator for Phala. Also, the team has a solid track record. One concern: Akash currently has only XX providers, which may suggest centralisation risk if capacity is concentrated. Still, among this group, Akash offers one of the strongest overall profiles. We've compared the leading decentralized compute projects: Render, Chutes (Bittensor), Aethir, IOnet, AIOZ, Akash, Phala, Nosana, AO, and NodeAI.
