I just read back and forth about the difference between “NET FOREIGN RESERVES and FOREIGN RESERVE”

1: Net Foreign Reserve is the actual cash/assets you have in your account without any obligations. Obligations are fx liabilities, forward contracts etc.

-: (a): In other words, the difference between reserve assets and reserve liabilities.

-: (b): a more accurate measure of our foreign exchange buffers available to meet immediate external obligations.

2: Foreign reserve are simply the assets that includes liabilities to pay later.

3: let me explain it this way: You have N100 in your account say in February.

- You have rent to be paid in May. Say N35.

-(a): N100 represents foreign reserve

- (b): once you don pay your N35. Your net reserve is N65. That is your worth.

- (c): Technically in February, your bank will hail you bcos of N100 whereas you know that May, your real money is N65.

4: so, the Gov without a state met a foreign reserves that the former Gov had committed Nigerians that will mature in future. An example is airlines unpaid FOREX, loans etc. So, if you Comot those liabilities, your real balance is small.

5: For the Gov without a state to grow that “real reserve from $3.5bn to $23.11bn is worth commending.

6: so, we have reduced our debts in a way past FG not Buhari also paid $500m Eurobond of past governments. A healthy economy is bouncing back.
