Manufacturing is a function of process. Research is a function of process. 

Good process drives manufacturing. Good process drives research. Research drives better manufacturing. 

Software codifies that process.

Good companies customize software around optimized processes. Poorly run companies customize software out of laziness or ignorance. 

In the West, most companies use standard software and adapt their processes to it. In India, even small companies prefer customized software, believing it adds extra value. That doesn’t help. Hence they can’t scale. 

Software drives processes. Processes drive research. Occasionally, research drives processes. Unfortunately, most companies fail at all three.
