The White House has drawn up a last-minute strategy to support Ukraine, which includes an avalanche of military aid, $XX billion in loans and comprehensive new sanctions against russia, - The Guardian

Jake Sullivan promised to supply Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of missiles and hundreds of armored vehicles by mid-January.

Sanctions pressure on Muscovites will be increased, the US will support the training of the Ukrainian military outside Ukraine, and will also provide a loan of $XX billion, the repayment of which will be made at the expense of frozen russian assets

All this should strengthen Ukraine's negotiating capabilities with russia and, possibly, lay the foundation for a future settlement.
