The result for customers, skyrocketing bills more than double what they used to be at a time when inflation is hitting Americans while it's hard. The motive for investor-owned utilities is profit. Now, in order to induce the towns to sell their public water utilities to the private companies, the private companies claim that they will provide upgrades to aging water systems that the towns and cities can't afford. However, in reality, it would appear that these private water companies are buying systems that are in great shape that require minimal investment, despite what the claims are when they're going before the legislatures and spending millions of dollars to obtain legislation that will allow public water utilities in the given state to be purchased by private companies. Take a look at this video clip from Pennsylvania, where they've passed legislation called Act XX that permits privatization of public water companies. One of the tactics that they use is basically to say that the infrastructure that we have is very poor. If they took over, then they would do a better job managing the infrastructure. If the purpose of Act XX was to help failing systems, that hasn't happened in practice. Let me also be clear. None of the acquisitions so far have met a criteria or threshold of being troubled systems under the public utility code. And here's a video clip from a particular town in Pennsylvania that sold its public water utility to a private company. In 2020, the township of New Garden, Pennsylvania sold their sewer system to Aqua, Pennsylvania for nearly $XX million. Aqua Pennsylvania is a subsidiary of Essential Utilities, a publicly traded corporation that had more than $X billion in revenue in 2023. They basically came in and said, New Garden, we can give you this money. You could do your whatever projects you want to do with it. We'll take over your sewer system. We'll run it better than you have run it. And this will be basically a seamless transaction. There was very little in the way of hearings. Very few people knew about it. And quite frankly, very few people are even thinking about it. We were told that it was a great deal because there was a rate freeze and a limit on how much the rates would go up after the rate freeze. That rate cap and growth rate was later eliminated before the sale was executed. Everything looked about the same for maybe about six months to a year. But all of a sudden, the rates went up. They started to double and triple. You call OQA's customer service line, they don't, can't help you. They don't know what's going on. People feel frustrated, but nobody is taking responsibility for what has happened. As it stands now, nearly XX million Americans are having their water supplied by private companies. Environmental groups are characterizing this as our public water utilities being captured by the so-called elite, which I typically call the globalists or the international billionaires. — We're constantly seeing the corporate takeover of our government, which is constantly doing things that are against the interest of the American citizens. What all these corporations are doing, making record profit off of systems, industries, products that they consistently raise prices for without justification because the companies aren't struggling.
