Nubian kingdoms had a system of hieroglyphics derived from Egyptian hieroglyphics, and an alphabet derived from Egyptian demotic script. This is known as the Meroitic alphabet. Farming was invented across sub-Saharan Africa such as the domestication of millet, rice, and yam in West Africa. Iron working was invented independently in sub-Saharan Africa. Africans developed intricate crafts and detailed sculpture. Large scale constructions and oceanic trade.
