"Bitcoin's Struggle to be Digital Gold In theory Bitcoin can certainly replace gold as a reserve asset with increased transparency and portability. Bitcoin has an Achilles heel and that's leverage. Sure we know gold is prone to speculative waves but leverage is probably one of the biggest factors holding back Bitcoin from going head-to-head with gold. Gold is prone to liquidity crunches too.
