"Damascus clearly wants more merging and integration than the Iraqi model. The SDF are also quite different than the Peshmerga because they are not divided along party lines the way the PUK and KDP were in their respective divisions. Its going to be an incredibly complex process in Syria. If this were the 1990s and early 2000s one might imagine a KRG scenario but I suspect things are different today. The SDF are more cohesive in some/many ways than the current state of the Damascus-backed security forces. This is why Damascus has such trouble when tensions flare in areas like Lattakia Suwayda"

"I remember the Rwandan genocide people also tried to downplay it and excuse it as linked to economic clashes and other than what it was. Boko Haram is an openly Islamist extremist group that murders civilians. I've also heard the "herder-farmer" excuse before in other conflicts. It doesn't add up though. When the victims are all from one religious-ethnic group.it's not "clashes".and just because one group is "farming" and they are all being murdered and kidnapped.doesn't make it acceptable. "What lacks clarity about the war call is how it would be different than the last two years. There are no living hostages. However history has shown that what happens during the war is that the Gazan civilians are evacuated only to areas Hamas controls essentially cementing Hamas in control because Hamas moves from place to place with the civilians. With GHF apparently wrapped up operations there's no alternative place for Gazans to go and reside and get aid. This inevitably would seem to mean more bombing but no change in strategy or tactics. What's clear is these guys thought they could move about with some of them appearing to be armed. It shows how quickly armed terror groups have re-emerged. Beit Lahia is largely destroyed.
