"I would have guessed XX% of neurips attendees knew what AGI stands for but was totally wrong For a control comparison: XX% of people surveyed knew what SGD stands for. I would have guessed the fraction knowing the meaning of AGI was similar to SGD. Not even close If you're not an AI-adjacent person you perhaps haven't heard the term SGD - it's stochastic gradient descent a common technique used in training machine learning systems Lots of caveats about sampling bias small sample size etc. but I'm nonetheless quite surprised by this"
