"The inscription number comes from the blockchain history via a straightforward algorithm. That's actually my primary reason for supporting the proposed change. As of now the algorithm is anything but straight forward. Perfectly valid inscriptions are not assigned a number and treated as cursed because certain version of ord client could not recognize them.
