"I lived in Anchorage too. For some reason the sun seemed higher & seemed up longer than in Oslo. I used to try to figure out if it were because of the time zones. In Oslo it was dark quickly & you needed reflectors on your backpack or coat to be seen by cars when going home from work or school. I didn't experience that in Anchorage latitude [--] degrees N vs Oslo [--] degrees N. Anchorage should be darker. Perhaps it's the curvature of the earth. There's definitely a time zone advantage in Anchorage. The sun rises later in Anchorage so it stays light later which means that going home isn't as"

"Oslo has Holmenkollen etc. & it's hilly in Nesodden on the other side of the fjord (where I lived) but Anchorage is surrounded on three sides by real mountains. It's true the expansive inlet is on the western side but in winter the sun is really just making a circle around right"
