"We give our 4-year-old a weekly allowance: $4/week to match his age. Its not tied to chores or responsibilities its just a tool to teach him how money works. He has to divide the $4 into four categories: Investing Giving Saving Spending 1) Investing: We deposit this into his portfolio 2) Giving: He chooses where it goes (church food pantry etc.) 3) Saving: To teach him to save for bigger things he wants (usually a LEGO) 4) Spending: Goes in his wallet & he can buy whatever he wants whenever he wants (w/ a few boundaries) So far its been fruitful and we are eager to see how these habits play"
