"Here is an explanation of what CLO's are: Collateralized Loan Obligations or CLOs are basically bundles of corporate loans packaged up and sold to investors. They take hundreds of leveraged loans think companies rated B or worse and slice them into layers called tranches. The top layers get steady interest; the bottom layers take the risk. Banks hedge funds and asset managers buy these for yield but heres the catch: most of the loans inside are now covenant-lite and highly leveraged. So when defaults rise even the safe AAA tranches can wobble. CLOs are the quiet engine of this credit cycle"
