"Here is your conundrum on REE's It is not just that China is the largest miner of rare earth minerals (which are not actually rare I prefer to call them critical materials) but more importantly they have a chokehold on the processing of these critical materials. China currently processes about XX% of the worlds rare earths giving it control over the supply of finished materials critical for clean tech semiconductors magnets defense systems etc. Processing is even a dirtier business than mining due to the toxic and radioactive byproducts involved which has in the past discouraged Western"
