"New daylight photos of the AirACT 747-400 show significant damage to the aircraft after veering off the runway while landing in Hong Kong. An air traffic control recording indicates the cargo plane's pilot confirmed plans to land on runway 07L where the crash occurred but he did not report any technical issues on the recording. Man Ka-chai chief accident and safety investigator for Hong Kong's Air Accident Investigation Authority confirmed air traffic control had directed the flight to land at the north runway but added: "We didn't receive any message requesting help from the pilot." "Azerbaijan Airlines A320 overruns the runway at St. Petersburg Pulkovo Airport coming to rest on the grass off runway 28R. Flight AHY020 stopped climb at FL60 after departing Pulkovo Airport reporting issues with the landing gear. After performing two low passes the crew put the aircraft into a hold for an hour then performed several more approaches until finally declaring Mayday and landing at around 0040Z. According to AZAL the Airbus A320 operating flight J2-020 safely returned to Pulkovo Airport after circling over St. Petersburgs airspace for nearly three hours to burn off excess fuel."
