"Yes that only seems to be changing recently. I've commented on it. The Yuan IS brutally undervalued but until recently those who said the Chinese were keeping it undervalued were somewhat at odds with the market which kept pushing it weaker than the Chinese wanted it. At the same time it's well known that more inflation leads to more currency depreciation and vice-versa through PPP (purchasing power parity) pressure. All basket case economies with high inflation typically suffer from currency depreciation as well"

"Allowing the sale of $NVDA's H200 to China while far from NVDA's best chips still represents a significant thawing of the relationship with China. I wonder if China will allow the purchase of these chips though as they'd affect the local suppliers"

"The extremism isn't obvious to everyone (a lot of it happens at home or in hospitals etc) and neither does it affect everyone. And it affects men very little on top. What we can know is that for there to be terrorism and riots you HAVE to also have extremism. If you go to Turkey for instance you also won't necessarily SEE the extremism especially in the large cities yet there's a lot of it (a lot more than in Xinjiang)"

"@ZeusGrobbelaar @Xinjiangstory Most estimates from sources which are known to exaggerate things point to 1mn 1mn+ reeducated. There were more than 10mn Uyghurs in Xinjiang plus as you said they weren't the only ones reeducated so 10-15% looks like a generous estimate"

"In their comparisons they even sometimes beat Tesla's FSD v13 which is what's available in China. But EVEN if we discount such comparisons and I do there are X issues: 1) The competitors include their systems in the car price not as an expensive option like Tesla does 2) They're improving rapidly as well and even new competidors like Xiaomi get their systems up and running very quickly 3) As long as Tesla's FSD is unsupervised it's a minor advantage to only require X intervention every 200-500km versus X every XXX or so. You have to be attentive in both cases"

"The Chinese EV markets which don't have enough capacity such as Xiaomi couldn't care less that other Chinese EV makers might have more capacity than they want. There's in effect no such thing as "Chinese EV production capacity" when it comes to decisions to invest in more of it since the companies doing the investing will be those which think they don't have enough regardless of the overall picture. That said those that don't have enough will sometimes buy some capacity from those who have too much like when Geely recently brought a SAIC-GM plant"

"All of this happens because EVs aren't commodities where an aggregate capacity can be relevant as all producers experience it simultaneously. There the problem is typically that production capacity takes a while to arrive and everyone ordered it in a different more favorable market which existed in the past. Plus high fixed costs often mean the capacity will run as long as it covers variable costs+something more"
