As a GIB in Recce Sqn often it was either just me or one other dismount looking for IED's. And of course every tour the TTP's of the Taliban changed. On 3-09 it seemed like many of the IED's were being directed at the dismounts looking for the traditional IED's in culverts and Pressure Plates. So my routine for doing my box drills on a defile was to start far and wide. Work my way in looking for places that an IED might be set up to kill me. Once that was cleared"

"During a short halt on patrol an ANA Recce patrolman was caught smoking cannabis. ANA soldiers would often mix cannabis with their tabacco cigarettes. They would also use Qat (Khat) with their chewing tabacco (Naswar) as a stimulant with the nicotine"
