"I own a X floors duplex (1225sqft). I have a heat pump (mini split) on the bottom and top floor. Yesterday was 30C in Vancouver we used the heat pump all day (so that even the middle floor where my wife works was kept cool). We kept our place at 22-23C all day Guess how much it cost me in electricity to do that Less than $X. Yes less than $X a day to use AC in the entire duplex. Calculations are not super accurate but it's actually a lot less than $X but I rounded up. Granted electricity is cheap in BC (10ct per kwh) but even if the cost were double it would still be worth it People don't"

"I basically look at the hour by hours usage from BC Hydro and did some math. I get different estimates with different calculations but they all point to much less than $X. And yes the very rough estimate of when I compare before/after the heat pump is indeed about 5-6 kwh My two splits are 110V with 20amp so technically can draw over 2kw each but they never do that. And it really only uses a lot of power when you start them. Then it is barely noticeable (you can clearly see in the data from BC Hydro when we turned one on) No heat pump will draw 1.5kw forever that's not how heat and cooling"
