The likeness was so remarkable one of Scotts friends referred to it as a petrifaction of Scott. When Scott died in 1832 it was the admiration for this portrait which made Greenshields the natural choice for the Monument to Sir Walter Scott in Glasgows George Square. Indeed to ensure the proportions and details were correct Greenshields repeated the head and features from his Edinburgh model for his Glasgow figure." In my experience the Gordon Street exit experience is changeable throughout the day but what would really help is removing the conflict between pedestrians and vehicles.
