"$RIG just has a better / differentiated fleet vs. $NE $VAL & $SDRL: majority of it is not (as) directly affected by competition within 'standard' 7G segment. $NE will have two 7G+ after upgrading them for the (probably worse than they seem) Shell contracts they 'won' from $RIG earlier this year. The 8Gs got a $150k / day premium on initial contracts. Now premium 'reconfirmed' at $200k / day in a soft market. How much more is an 8G rig worth vs. standard high spec 7G when it generates $50-70m in additional cash flow / profit per year over the long run I have long said they will prove to be"

People who sound smart like Doomberg who say 'the world is awash in hydrocarbons' and the blow out of gold / oil ratio is irrelevant fail a basic common sense test. "$OIH $RIG $NE $SDRL $VAL Interesting comparison: in same week $NE signs X year extensions for two of its highest spec 7Gs for $422k/day - and $RIG announces one year contract extension (priced option) for Atlas one of its two 8Gs for only X year afterwards for $635k / day. $200k / day is officially the current '8G premium'. Opex likely similar that's $70m / year of additional cashflow (and they have two 8Gs). Significant premium likely to persist in monopoly 20k PSI market - Atlas extension likely tied to BP's Tiber FID (see @TommyDeepwater's post below)"
