"Subjection to the Roman Pontiff is integral to Church Unity. Church unity is held together by the vincula perfectionis (bond of perfection: cf. Colossians 3:14) -- the theological virtue of Charity. So whoever has the theological virtue of Charity is at least implicitly subject to the Roman Pontiff.
