"The whiffle about Tolkien being racist has made its regular comeback. This shite has been going on for ages in literature. I remember forty years ago taking an English A level and as always back then Shakespeare had to be included. The play was Othello and the teacher was intently focused on a line about a 'black ram tupping a white ewe' and told us to search out further examples of racism in the play. I wondered at the time why she thought it so important and why I should care. In retrospect I see why I dumped the course: a teacher more interested in indoctrination than education"

"I think the Royal Mail website must have gone wrong at some point. It gave me a ridiculous figure for a small parcel but now it seems to be back to expensive but not kidney damage. Carrier bags full of packages have gone down to the post office in the last week or so but that hardly seems to have made a dent. "Desch Plantpak a company local to me that makes plastic plantpots and seed trays and where my wife Caroline worked and where my brother still works is undergoing 'strategic restructuring'. In other words the UK factory is closing down and the machines being moved to where the dribbling Miliband hasn't made energy the most expensive in the world and where they're not being overloaded by government with other bureaucratic and tax costs.
