"breaking my hiatus from posting for this it was an honor to interview @lightcoin on the eve of the @Starknet & @AlpenLabs announcement we covered what the announcement means for users of Starknet and future users of Alpen. we also chatted through the reason for building a shared zk-verifier the trust model and why rollups are *the* most trust-minimized sidesystem coming to bitcoin the conversation also brought back some memories on rollups pre-bitvm. we even discussed the rollkit and sovereign sdk implementations. @modular_summit 2023 feels so long ago i've been following bitcoin rollups"

"i like many bitcoiners do had an issue with the founders reward/token issuance model. it didn't feel like it was "neutral" money. but it's privacy properties are obviously better. i don't understand how anyone can argue that z2z tx's are less private than anything bitcoin has"

"the reason you need op_cat (or something like it) is a few things: 1) you need a generic way to verify snarks. if you hard code a verifier (i.e. op_stark_verify) and there's a bug then you have to hardfork bitcoin to fix it 2) even though newer bridges offer this 1-of-N assumption the operator sets (those who actually hold the bitcoin) are still federated. the question of "who will run the mints" applies to "who will operate the bridges""

"i think about my decision to leave zcash (ecc) quite a lot. even more so now that it's getting attention on twitter. once at bitdevs someone said to me "well if we could do zcash tx's but with bitcoin would you still work on zcash" the answer is/was no so that's why i work on bitcoin stuff"

"outside of issuance an underrated thing about bitcoin (and monero to an extent) is how widely it is accepted in various internet marketplaces. i allegedly buy a few goods and services with bitcoin weekly. i use lightning and/or ecash wallets. it's really cool"

"so the dream world is that something like op_cat is enabled and a trustless bridge can be built between bitcoin and a zcash style like l2. you get near-perfect privacy for neutral money that's accepted a lot of places"

"are federations enough imo no. they are not self-custodial systems and if the feds came knocking there is a high likely hood that they could shut bridges down a zcash-like system has higher chances of attracting this type of attention thus trustless verifier needed"

"does this mean we shouldn't build better privacy systems also imo no. it's still worth trying to build a zcash-like L2 with bitvm/glock. it is the best bitcoin can do today. but w/o a trustless system there's always an argument to opt for an altcoin for better privacy"

"does this negate the need for other privacy systems being built in and around bitcoin again no. all the things should be built. but people are so focused on their "thiel funded cia operation" conspiracies they're missing the fact that there's an opportunity to make bitcoin "encrypted bitcoin". not an alt"
