"Agree but this isn't really surprising considering the power gradient. Bibi kept unsustainable status quos going on especially with Hamas-ruled Gaza and using small flare-ups for political gains until the situation exploded into the major catastrophe of October 7th and this latest larger war. The US has decided to put an end to this cycle of war ceasefire war ceasefire etc. in Gaza - it has now become too disruptive to the global order. The US-lead hegemony no longer trusts the Palestinians to autonomously rule Gaza but also importantly no longer trusts Israel to long-term manage this"

"A lot of Israelis actively despise the parts of their national service that involve guard duty in the West Bank. Plenty think their government's policies are a bad idea hate being woken up at 4am to guard at dangerous checkpoints and also plenty are very unhappy to be forced to defend ultra-religious settlers. "Realistically Israeli mainstream politics these days varies from "Palestinian state possible someday but currently not viable" to "we will never let this happen". Past PMs like Rabin Barak Olmert Peres etc. were vocally open to it and won. The Oslo Accords and other agreements show this. But since the multi-generational catastrophe of the Gaza Disengagement Plan the politics has shifted and most Israelis are scared out of their minds to make any similar experiment with West Bank autonomy"
