"Not true. Many larger stores have an entire "loss prevention" division. I know; I got accused of stealing at a WalMart because of an errant can of tomatoes in a $XXX cart full of groceries. Plainclothes employees stopped me at the door with threats of police. After over an hour of scrutinizing my cart they let me go because it was "under their threshold""
