As a matter of fact with the above mentality you only accept something as "not a shitcoin" once it has been widely adopted (and probably the best performing asset in the world). Which is basically not having an opinion of your own. I never said LN isn't bitcoin (even if it's just an IOU). I initially responded to your insult to"

"the oracle problem is asking n entities to provide you the true price of an asset (assume it exists) where each entity has a financial incentive to lie to you. the more they lie the more your oracle is wrong the more they can arb. you want to penalize liars but the lie influences the oracle's belief on the true price and so you penalize based on false information thus you don't penalize well. @maxibitcat #kaspa"

"I knew you would pick up on the "true price" aspect and rightfully so. Let's do a thought process on this before addressing the other question (I understood what you meant). Say there was a single global LOB what would we consider the "true price" Obv the mid price isn't actually a price you can buy/sell at if there is positive spread (but let's set this aside for now). So let's say an asset is traded on a single LOB then the "true price" is just the BBO. Although if we want to go even further even the best bid is not the price because the executed price of selling depends on liquidity at the"

"Just watched great episode as usual have some comments : - "black box for the final user you don't know exactly how the data is collected". Totally agree with this as a matter of fact I have asked @BandProtocol publicly and privately how they aggregate data (even told them they could answer "this is confidential). I was ignored every time. - a reminder that @quex_tech is a great solution but a team can still build a bad oracle if they use it incorrectly. Quex doesn't tell you how to aggregate data they help you do it. I also like that Dmitry admits if you are nitpicking we could say even TEEs"

"IOU definition : a signed document acknowledging a debt. That is what LN is factually. The reason the teacher that wrote the above paper didn't actually conduct the attack is because he has a sense of moral not because he couldn't. What makes bitcoin secure isn't just that it hasn't been exploited but even theoretical attacks have only gone so far as selfish mining. Or else would you argue that ETH is as secure as Bitcoin It is clear you aren't open to debate and are condescending so this is a waste of my time"

"@auzghosty I'm wondering how this would actually work. Futures trading don't trade the underlying asset but are just contracts. So how does this impact the price If I'm not mistaken they can enable futures trading without even owning any kaspa"

"I do think it's a nice comparison and indeed multiple prices arise from the dynamics on an inefficient market. But as time moves on we should be able to quantify what the average arbitrage size is which venues seem to lag behind how fast arbitrages are filled etc. All of this can only arise if they are compared to theoretical fair value of the asset. The more efficient the market becomes the more it converges to the oracle. I think that's a nice property to have"

"I agree with you that theory only goes so far. For example in the mathematical finance class I took at ETH the first rule you learn is that there is no arbitrage in an efficient market. Ofc that property doesn't hold because information doesn't propagate instantly etc. However I do think crypto is a highly inefficient market arbitrage opportunities are orders of magnitude higher than in tradfi. Hence it should close in the future. Either way it is interesting to have an oracle that can give more information than just a median like liquidity spreads etc"

"@optical_fibre @SebasP49474734 also the whole point of crypto is to be trustless and decentralized (imo) not to have big institutions "trust each other""

"@SebasP49474734 "prices deviate significantly" seems like a stretch. The threshold for btc is 0.5%. Although I do feel this is still quite a bit. The question would be how fast can they update the price feed if the instant they do one update the next price fetch is already below 0.5%"

"@optical_fibre @SebasP49474734 oh I absolutely agree with the argument it's just the conclusion that doesn't make sense : oracles are not the way more institutions to trust each other "

"Im not sure I understand lets stay concise. Me and you can play futures trading without any asset. Imagine a world where there is a dark futures game (ie the contracts can peg to the spot price w funding rates but spot price cant see how futures are moving). A position can only be closed if another player joins the opposite side or an opposite side closes his trade simultaneously. Or if they have no more collateral then you just close the position and sell the collateral on the market for a stable asset. So apart from creating fear by influencing futures price depegging I dont see how you can"

"Hi maybe I wasn't clear in communicating it but I am well aware that exchanges froze withdrawals and deposits. That's essentially the whole anomaly detection of my oracle. Ie. if relative to the volatility there is an exchange that exhibits very large arbitrage opportunities and that arbitrage isn't closed out fast this means trades/withdrawals/deposits were halted. The venue is then flagged as an outlier until the arbitrage closes. I am not a fan of LULD in crypto. If the normalcy comes back XX% lower than when you started freezing the oracle your lending platform is essentially in bad debt"
