"@annakatherines_ I don't want to speak like this is settled science but autism advocates call this "masking." It's not an issue of learning social skills many autistic people have those it's just more exhausting to use them eventually leading to burn out/an increase in symptoms"

"@annakatherines_ the popular idea that "mild" or "high-functioning" autism is just being socially awkward misses that it is an executive function disorder like ADHD. These disorders come with real limits to people's abilities and require accommodations not just hard work from the individual"
