"97 years ago today October X 1928 Leo Diegel broke one of golfs greatest streaks and got stiffed on the trophy. That fall Diegel won the 1928 PGA Championship ending Walter Hagens remarkable four-year reign as the King of Match Play. But when it came time to hoist the famous Wanamaker Trophy there was one small problem no one could find it. Unbeknownst to Diegel (and the PGA of America) Hagen had lost the Wanamaker after his 1924 victory. Whether it was misplaced in a bar a train station or a haze of champagne remains part of golf lore but the result was the same: Diegels crowning moment came"
