"On July 31st 2023 Alchemix's $alETH synthetic was impacted by the now infamous Curve reentrancy vulnerability. Thanks to the help of the wider community we managed to claw back everything the hacker stole but the hacker left a mess with over 4000 alETH and X ETH in the Curve pool making a feast for MEV bots. The aftermath left our team demoralized with our efforts to restore its price repeatedly stymied by the alETH lost to the MEV bandits. "REV as a chain valuation framework doesnt make a lot of sense to me. Ethereum could easily skyrocket it by reducing blob bandwidth and shrinking blocks back down but instead chose the path of scale AND decentralization and as we hit scaling limits we increase blobs and block sizes lowering rev again. meanwhile defi tvl and overall chain activity is at ath despite rev being at X year lows. undoubtedly ethereum is more valuable to the world now than ever. thus it has too much mindshare weighting its importance"
