"@JOEREILLY1689 @FightOpinion I think this is a fact of life in MMA (less so now w/ UFC dominance but still true) and mostly an unfair reputation for boxing. Many massive MMA fights didn't happen usually b/c of promoter interest. If boxing bouts don't get made it's usually the fighters calling the shots"

"Shooto is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The legitimacy of their belts was important for the UFC. It conferred respectability onto some UFC title fights. So they built a sustainable MMA model focused on competition not marketing and avoided exploiting fighters"

"@JOEREILLY1689 @FightOpinion There aren't "world champions" in single entity MMA promotions. Still a ton of prestige with the UFC belt. Much less so for other orgs. That's not true for boxers who fight for belts w/o being under contract to the same promoter. Global competition pool vs closed system matters"
