"Just re-read @ruffoloj s excellent call to action for stable coins in Canada. Its got me re-thinking the monetary sovereignty argument for a CAD backed stable. Why shouldnt Canada just hard launch a CBDC It could have all the same rules that a stable would need anyway: who can issue backing risk control; could even be interest-bearing if BoC designs it that way and would create a new policy lever. I can see arguments for treating a CAD stable as a private financial product but ultimately its part of public payments system reform. Like why not just do one round of regulation to upgrade the"
