"I completely agree with the view pretraining gains compound but a lot of the innovation is around using capacity in a more meaningful way not scaling in a meaningful way. Its kind of like a cruise ship every year there is a slightly bigger cruise ship but physics dictates the maximum size. The limits are known. However if we invent a new material all bets are off. All the innovation over the last year is a slightly bigger cruise ship and someone saying it has a new water slide.
