"Utah helped push the Pac XX to hold out for a bigger media deal and the whole thing collapsed. Now theyre jumping into private equity and speeding up the next collapse of college football. First the conference now the sport. Bold strategy"

"Private equity in college football is a slippery slope. $500M sounds great for Utah in the short term but it comes with real risks. Profit motives over tradition. Outside control over a public university. Athletes treated like assets. Olympic sports squeezed. And what happens when the investors want their exit College football keeps drifting further from what it was meant to be"

"The issue is that PE only wins if the sport itself changes. An equity repricing means consolidation cost cutting and extraction not tradition or stability. Universities are permanent. Private equity needs an exit. Once returns matter more than education culture and non revenue sports college athletics loses what made it worth anything in the first place"

"Also college football fans: Theres a difference between rich boosters donating with no ownership and private equity buying a stake with an exit plan. One is messy but contained. The other turns wins athletes and entire sports into line items on a balance sheet. If the defense is its already broken thats not a justification its a warning"

"I did not say other athletic departments have already done this or that it has gone badly elsewhere. That is not the point I was making. My point was about incentives and where this leads. Private equity has a pretty consistent playbook built around returns monetization and eventual exit. When that model enters college sports priorities shift over time even if things look fine at first. Once one school opens the door others will feel pressure to follow and that is when the structure of college athletics really starts to change. This is less about past examples and more about the direction"

"Winning is the outcome not the business model. This is not about Utah. This is about what happens when private equity enters college sports at all. PE does not invest for tradition or long term health. It invests for returns. That brings monetization pressure cost cutting and exit timelines. Once one school opens the door others will follow just to keep up. Over time that means less institutional control athletes treated more like assets and non revenue sports squeezed. You might see short term gains but the long term effect is college sports drifting further away from what made it work in"

"I dont think your response is really addressing the point Im making. Im not disputing that PE can inject cash or even help teams win short term. Thats an outcome. My point has always been about incentives not results. Private equity is built around returns and eventual exit. Once that incentive structure enters college sports priorities start shift over time. So pointing to winning doesnt really address the concern. This isnt about Utah its about what happens when this model becomes normalized across college athletics"
