"Dept of Quant Trading: In my experience over optimized quantitative trading models fall apart spectacularly. I'm a fan of robust models which to me means simple models (ex simple moving average crossover). I do like to layer these to avoid betting too heavily on any one model. Over time this approach has enabled me to achieve real time results that are exponentially closer to simulation results vs complex over optimized models. However. If you apply robust models to something like a broad market index (ex. SPY) you can improve drawdowns versus buy and hold (sometimes significantly) but you're"

"Disclosure: I did not trade $SLV (or silver futures) long or short. And I co-write the Market Wizard books but I don't claim to be a MW. That said. I wonder how many people actually walked away with a profit considering everything they did (long or short) over the past few weeks. If you were long and using a tight stop you almost certainly got chopped up a ton recently. If you had a wide stop you're still long and hating it right now (although you might still be profitable depending how early you got in - but down 30% in one day sucks 🤮). "For money managers if you put up a 15% CAGR and kept your drawdown above 30% you'd beat pretty much everyone. Yet to retail traders on X 15% is not even worth logging in to X for. I wonder what this says about where we are in the "cycle""

"Spending far too much time going through Epstein files. Lot of wild stuff in there. Some of the most cringe material involves behind the scenes emails between wealth managers chomping at the bit to get JEE as a client or to otherwise leverage his connections. JEE isn't cc'd on the emails so not sure how the emails are in the database but they are. I know the job of wealth mgrs is to raise money but the emails read a bit like vampires figuring out how to drain as much blood as possible"

You need big moves leverage or some combination of the two Unless playing in extremely volatile markets big moves take time Day trading volatile stocks tends to work well in certain timeframes (like everything) but over the long haul only works for very select few Guys making big money usually aren't creating big diversified portfolios they're focusing on one or two stocks/markets at a time Futures allow easy leverage but tend to move a lot less than stocks relatively speaking and too much leverage inevitably leads to blowing up Small/micro cap stocks usually"

"I own an older house which has a degree of charm but is high maintenance. Something new is always popping up that needs tending to. It is a far cry from my days of renting in high rises in big cities. Houses and suburbs have certain benefits depending on preferences and life situation but a lot of people act like owning RE is this wonderful endeavor that always ends well. Now that I'm in the thick of it for a few years I sometimes focus my analytical abilities on the realities of my experience and the experience of others I know and really start to wonder what RE returns on average actually"

If you were short you probably took a lot of small"

"I added Bitcoin to a tactical multi-asset "macro" strategy simulation and it made the CAGR go up by 3% on average per year. However Bitcoin went from $1 to $125000 over the course of the simulation. "As an unleveraged non-day trader I find that checking prices intraday and stopping out based on intraday action often leads to worse outcomes vs just ignoring intraday and focusing on closing prices. So I would use only closing prices to determine if prices went below my stop level (mental stop not actual order) and get out the next day. To other non-day traders have you found the same"

"That's a risk for sure. But consider something like the flash crash where you'd have potentially experienced massive slippage on a stop only to watch things come right back. One solution is to focus on sizing positions as a % of AUM like stock guys do versus risk to stop like futures guys and traders do. Also note I said "non-leveraged" in the OP for a reason. https://twitter.com/i/web/status/2011771798455460074 https://twitter.com/i/web/status/2011771798455460074"

"Also I've been thinking of the crypto liquidation from a few months back. Sometimes stops don't work due to price gaps (usually in markets that are less mature/less liquid). This to me hints at a need to consider the actual amount of market exposure you are taking if sizing based on the stop. Ultimately there is no right answer to any of this as Richard Dennis said "You pays your money and you takes your chances." Perhaps my OP really speaks to the market environment (mostly endless bull market) and maybe a good idea would be to toggle the approach based on the market; if we are in a"

"So many posts I read talk about making the shift from day trading to swing trading. So many traders are now swing traders in stocks. Most of these traders have been flourishing (assuming they're telling the truth). Will the entire world eventual migrate to becoming successful swing traders living happily ever after or might we be in a swing trading bubble"

Gold and silver moves yday said to be related to Warsh nomination which kinda makes sense if he is a hawk. But then why would a low rate wanting president pick a high rate prone Fed chair Something isn't adding up. "If long term sustainable (decades) you'd almost certainly be the best money manager in history as measured by MAR.
