"Yes it does. And Id be fully open to some pretty draconian punishments for those who are responsible. But whilst I cannot speak for Bob here I would note that it is pretty much unheard of for any developed nation to not allow an abortion in that situation. I believe even the strictest states in the US do. So what I would ask you is whether that is enough Because if not then it is a relatively poor argument to use an extreme situation where you could already get an abortion as an argument for more widespread and unrestricted availability"

"The thing is I do at least understand why they take that position even though I cannot personally agree with it. Riley Gaines has sat next to Charlie Kirk and argued the same thing by the way so its not just a man thing. But I would suggest that the problem stems from moral absolutism. Declaring the newly conceived foetus to have equal moral worth and right to life as an adult or even a newborn kind of ties you in knots. Which is why I said in my other post that I dont think I can be logically consistent on this subject. Because logical consistency does lead to these outcomes. Compromise"

"Im arguing for myself and not for Bob. I did not use the word murder. I think logical consistency does tend to lead you to that perspective though. But as I just said to someone else compromise tends to land on compassion for the mother. I think this is the only reasonable approach even if it results in some morally dubious actions. A person who does use that word might indeed oppose abortion in the case of rape. But then the death penalty and assisted dying might also be categorised as murder. So it becomes a case of entering the very murky world of justifying murder in some situations"

"Bob is not the most effective debater and Turning Point UK is nowhere near as big as the US parent. But Charlie Kirk could draw a crowd and often debated the subject with similar rhetoric so I do think its entirely a lack of interest in the subject. I do think that most people who argue this are well meaning. I tend to reject the idea that is just about controlling womens bodies for the sake of control. I think those with the more extreme views are largely just getting tied in knots by moral absolutism"

"The problem with trying to negotiate a peace involving keeping current territorial gains is that the most they seem able to get out of Zelensky is a grudging admission that he cannot currently retake them. He seems to prefer a ceasefire so that Ukraine can rearm regroup and also continue down the path of the security guarantees that contributed to this whole mess happening. If Russia is unwilling to totally withdraw and Ukraine will not accept permanent territorial loss then they are at an impasse that can only result in further fighting"

"No matter what the media have told us NATO expansionism was a contributing factor to this. So formally including any part of Ukraine in NATO does not help to end the war. That may be the case even if you can convince Zelensky to formally accept territorial loss in exchange for membership. As for all Russia did was attack its neighbours this is a gross exaggeration at best. Chechnya and Georgia at least had mitigating factors (jihadis and attacks on peacekeepers respectively) and Im not aware of much else prior to Ukraine. For example I'm pretty sure that they got an earlier version of the Abrams which lacked the latest armour upgrades. Probably mostly scrap now. "Well that's the problem isn't it The data is useless because it seems to be based on nothing ore than someone reported shortages within that date range. No information on how severe the shortage was or if it has been resolved. There may or may not be real shortages but what I want to know is things like number of stations with shortages maximum ration per car and number of drivers impacted. Otherwise all they are doing is waving a map around with some pretty colours and hoping that the audience will clap and cheer for having their confirmation bias fed"

"Its not complicated. Pro Ukraine sources generally want us to believe that figures for this year are in the hundreds of thousands with the total to date being anywhere up to XXX million (Zelensky claimed this though Trump actually said 1.5). However we are provided here with a claim of tens of thousands that is allegedly based on good video evidence of deaths. This is far closer to what Russia would claim. Maybe still a bit high but certainly more compatible. So the only way around this seems to be well he did not see all of them. In which case all you can really say is that you can confirm"

To the best of my knowledge Zelensky Trump and many on this platform have claimed 1-1.5 dead Russians. Not total casualties. Dead. Considering 45k is over 2/3 the strength of the current British army yes it is still quite sobering. But it is not close to what most NAFO people are claiming. "Yet apparently it tells us nothing about total deaths. It's just about the spectacle. Which to be fair there is a lot of in a war with abundant FPV drone footage of deaths. But most people don't binge watch it. I don't believe for a second that Ukrainian total losses are significantly lower than for the Russians. Even if only voluntary enlisting over 60s due to reported manpower shortages really does not lend that any credibility. Neither does grabbing people off the streets. Mind you if you are relying on desertions to bump up the numbers then it says something about the popularity of the war"

"Both sides do attract true believers though including from abroad. There are no shortage of examples on here fighting for the Ukrainian side. But to give just a couple for the Russians there was apparently the son of a CIA guy who went and got killed fighting for the Russians. I've seen a Japanese marksman fighting for the Russians. Could not even speak Russian all that well but made it clear that he thought Russia is in the right and that they are fighting against NATO and the Americans especially"

"This is such a strange characterisation. First of all by some accounts the Istanbul deal might have been almost finalised when NATO (with Boris as the messenger) convinced them to keep fighting. Maybe that's an over simplification But in any case plan A actually looked rational and achievable. Conquest is plan B. And yes they are winning. X years is a long time but its not really exceptional for a major conflict. And maybe it was not obvious to the casual observer who was winning WWI in 1917. But Germany still lost (notwithstanding the whole other can of worms that it opened)"

"I don't know of any reason to believe that is a a reliable source. But like I said rational and achievable. That is not the same as guaranteed success. History is full of military campaigns that were theoretically winnable quickly but turned into a long slog. Of course the Russians got some things wrong. Of course their military had issues at various levels and initially relied on outdated tactics. But they still seem to have come close to winning"
