"Hey Midpines neighbors I have picked up this poor coyote on my wildlife cameras a few times recently and just met him in person this evening. He has a really advanced case of mange and likely wont make it. Mange especially an advanced case like this is often the result of rodenticide exposure. Please do not use rat poisons-they are horribly cruel and also can be deadly to wildlife whether it be owls coyotes raptors foxes and more. These poisons can also kill our pets. Yosemite Area Audubon Society has some good info here along with alternatives to rat poison:"

"Today's butterfly report in the Sierra foothills: The Sonoran blues are really starting to emerge--I saw four today doing their fluttering over the rocky hillsides. They are so tough to get a good photo of when they first appear as they do not stop Sara orange-tips are also starting to appear in greater numbers along with California tortoiseshells and common ringlets. An unexpected sighting was the Mylitta Crescent--it's about a week earlier than I have spotted one previously. And on @inaturalist it's just the third recorded sighting this year in all of California."

"Patience is a virtue when studying and photographing butterflies especially Sonoran blues who fly seemingly endlessly back and forth along side the rocky hillsides. The last week they have been a blur of blue in my photos but this female decided to take a rest and posed for the camera today. Females have four orange spots while males have two. Garth and Tilden the authors of California Butterflies considers the Sonoran blue "our most beautiful small butterfly." I agree-seeing their neon blue wings with spots of sunshine fluttering to and fro is a revelation."
