So now I do. Yes its not a tax on savings accounts Yes regular interest income has always been taxed. The new tax is on bonds and long-term deposits. And the goal is to tax the rich. But lets do the math. If you made 2-M in X years youre already taxed say around 200000. If you were able to save 200000 over the course of that same period and invest that on a fixed X% bond for example. You should be making 8000 per annum. But with new tax regime youll only be making 6400.
