Cameroon's 92-year-old President Biya appears to have lost the recent presidential election, but the government has shut down internet access in certain areas, allegedly to maintain his power. The opposition, led by Issa Tchiroma Bakari, claims victory and is demanding a peaceful handover of power. Protests have erupted across the country amid the disputed election results.

"WACS is just one of five undersea cables landing in Cameroon so even if theres some disruption it wouldnt cause such a nationwide outage especially while post-election demonstrations are still ongoing and the government controls all the cables. Lets not forget that Cameroon shut down the internet for XX days in parts of the country back in 2017. This is business as usual. Theyve also imposed other restrictions for today and this looks like just another tool in their playbook of repression"
